Last year Greenbox completed a house move for a lovely lady from York to Milton Keynes. She was so kind and interested in us, asking us questions with a fascinated curiosity.
It took a couple of hours to load up the van and at some point I asked her what she did for a living.
‘I’m making documentaries,’ she said.
Well, now I was curious! I love documentaries!
It turns out that the lovely lady I was moving was Cathy FitzGerald. She’s made many documentaries for radio 4, and written a couple of children books about the magical pursuits of Pinch Perkins.
It was a 3 hour journey to Milton Keynes so I asked her for recommendations of which ones to listen to on the way.
Cathy gave me three.
I listened to four on the way down and four on the way back to Leeds. She’s done loads, and they’re all amazing.
From ‘reindeer racing’ to ‘how to dig a grave’ the subjects she covers are vast. And they are composed in such a gentle manner, interviews being intersected with poetry, song and soundscapes.
I was fully immersed and have recommended her to everyone since.
I also mentioned that to Cathy that if she ever wanted to do a documentary on moving house then I’ll be more than happy to contribute.
I’m still waiting for a call….
