On 16th May I transported some chairs and pictures from a store room on the outskirts of Leeds to an empty house in Lancaster. It was for an art exhibition called ‘What is Left’, an evocative exhibition about loss, the possessions that remain and what they represent.
Strangely, on the way to Lancaster with the chairs in the back of the van, one of the artists – Ellie Harrison – was on Radio 4 discussing the work. It was quite a coincidence and a great insight into the exhibition.
The programme is still on at https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0436h12
The exhibition leaves Lancaster on Monday where it moves to another empty house though this time in Barnsley, where the chairs will change and so will the pictures – showing different people with different objects left to them by their loved ones.
A very moving experience.
